What is Jiu Jitsu
Jiu Jitsu means “gentle art.” This martial art started in Japan many years ago and was re-created in the early 1900s by the famous Gracie family. The “gentle art “ demonstrates how leverage, timing, and technique can be used against a bigger and stronger opponent using his or her power against oneself. This reflects master Carlos Gracie’s theory that “the small can defeat the big.”
Today, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is rapidly becoming more and more popular in America and throughout the world. BJJ is considered to be the most effective martial art used for self-defense. It uses techniques that immobilize your opponent by using joint locks, body manipulations, and choke holds. Practicing BJJ has other benefits as well, including but not limited to; weight loss, mental health support, discipline, respect, and having a sense of community. For these reasons it has become a top choice in physical activity.
